“You girls wait here and I’ll see if he’s home,” Willie ordered.

Angelique paced impatiently across the floor of the Collins beach house. Chad cowered in a corner in fear as he watched his mistress become more and more agitated. “Thank you for coming down, Mrs. Collins,” Sheriff Drew said to Eleanor. “I am hoping to spare you the task of trying to help us identify the body as your nanny, but I’m at a loss. We can’t find anyone by that name anywhere in our searches, so we don’t have anything in the way of dental records or anything like that.”
Quentin went up the stairs and joined Barnabas and Julia. Barnabas had collapsed into his chair and was distraught over the events. Julia was nervously pacing back and forth.
“How is Chris?” Barnabas asked.
“He seems to be recovered,” Quentin said as he looked down at his hand and the ring he wore. (more…)
Anna Johnson, Collinwood housekeeper, and wife of the groundskeeper, Harry, tidied up the drawing room after most of the family had retired to their rooms.
Mr. Loomis was still downstairs, in the study. He had been nervous all evening and Mrs. Johnson had become nervous too with all of Mr. Loomis’ talk of making sure all of the outer doors were locked. He had fairly nagged poor Harry until he would swear on his mother’s grave that the entire house was completely secure. (more…)
